No PET scans at Colombo national hospital from today Featured

The Government Radiological Technologists Association (GRTA) said PET scans cannot be conducted at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka from Wednesday (20).

GRTA President Chanaka Dharmawickrama said the reason for this is the shortage of radiology officers.

General of Health Services Dr. G. Wijesuriya said radiology technicians who have completed their training will be deployed to resolve the issue, based on the directives issued by the Minister of Health.

X-ray and CT scans activities at government hospitals are at risk due to the shortage of radiologists.

The country is in need of 400 radiologists and threfore.even if the x-ray and CT scan devices are repaired, there is no staff to operate those devices. Dharmawickrama said
