ObjectivesPromoting all heritages in the country as active contributors in social and cultural development journey.Exhibiting the potential values of our national heritages and improving research activities, and preserving such heritages.Culturing positive attitudes in the minds of school children towards respecting & preserving our national heritages.Enhancing the public and private sector participation towards the preservation of heritages.Reflecting specific values throughout the world towards Sri Lankan heritages and preserving such things in an attractive manner.A little bit of history of the Ministry of National HeritageIn year 2007, the Ministry of Cultural and National Heritage was separated as Ministry of National Heritage and Ministry of Culture and arts affairs. As the Minister of the Ministry of National Heritage Mr. Anura Bandaranayaka and as the secretary of the Ministry Mrs.Mallika Karunaratne were appointed. As the Minister of Culture and art affairs Mr. Mahinda Yapa Abewardana and as Secretary Mr. G.L.W.samarasinghe were appointed. After the demise of Anra Bandaranayake in year 2008, again Ministry of National Heritage and the Ministry of Culture and art affairs were integrated. Again, Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana was the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the secretary was Mr. G.L.W.Samarasinghe. In the month of Novmber 2010, His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapakse assuming duties in his second term as the President by a gazette notification No. 1681/3 dated 22/11/2010 established the Ministry of National Heritage as a separate Ministry. Minister Dr. Jagath Balasooriya was appointed as the Minister and Mrs. Kanthi Wijethunge was appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry.
