Our Objectives & Functions
Formulate pensions policies with regard to officers in state, provincial councils, and armed forces with subject to provisions of minutes on pensions and payment of various pensions and allowances.
Functioning widows’ widowers’ and orphans’ pensions scheme with reference to widows’ widowers’ and orphans’ of public officers.
Implement public service provident fund for officers who draw non pensionable monthly salary.
Functioning local government service widows’ widowers’ and orphans’ pensions scheme for local government service officers widows’ widowers’ and orphans’.
Coordinate and administrate payment of pensions at national, district and divisional level.
Maintain a proper relationship with "civil society" led by pensioners’ associations.
History
Civil pensions scheme functioning since 1901.
Section 2 of ordinance No. 2 of 1947 makes the minutes on pensions part of the written law of Ceylon from 1901.
Early stage affairs directed by the Additional Establishment Controller of Treasury.
Pensions Department established on 1970 as a grade ‘A’ department.
This is a department belongs to the Ministry of Public Administration & Home Affairs.
Annually Rs. 103 billions spend for payment of pensions.
