Ralph Saint Louis Pieris Deraniyagala, CBE was a Sri Lankan lawyer and civil servant. He was a former Clerk of the House of Representatives (1947-1964) and Clerk of the Council of State.   Born to Sir Paul Edward Peirce, a civil servant and academic, and Lady Hilda Obeysekera Peirce. His siblings were Paulus Edward Pieris Deraniyagala, Justin Pieris Deraniyagala and Miriam Pieris Deraniyagala. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and is qualified as a lawyer. He married Eslyn Deraniyagala.   In July 1947 he was appointed Clerk of the House of State and continued as Clerk of the House of Representatives until his retirement in October 1964.   He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 1948 Birthday Honours, an Officer of the Coronation Honors (OBE) in 1953 and a Commander (CBE) in the 1954 New Year Honours.
