History of Welipitiya Divisional Secretariat
Welipitiya Divisional Secretariat was located on 15th August 1991 in a rented house which was situated in Padili Kokmaduwa Grama Niladhari Division. On that period the Office staff was about fifteen members and there were Thirty Eight Grama Niladhari divisions.
The first Assistant Government Agent/ Assistant Divisional Secretary was Mr.P.H.Ananda. From the beginning as the secretariat was a Sub Office on that period, all the administrative events were under the supervision of the Chief Secretary – Southern Province.
In 24th may 1994 the secretariat was brought to new premises called Kurunduwatthe, which was situated in Hallala Grama Niladhari Division. Mr.E.M.Yasapala was the Assistant Divisional Secreatry on that period and passed away with a sudden Heart attack on 5th July 1997.
31st March 1998 this Sub Office was promoted to a Divisional Secretariat and on that year the constructions of the upper floor of the building was completed. During that period the divisional secretary – Mr.Wimal Rubasinghe has done great job in developing the Division as well as the Secretariat.
