Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2 h 44 min to complete. This trail is great for backpacking, hiking, and walking, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are October through October.Ella draws travelers to Sri Lanka's highlands with its mountain forests, tea plantations, and relatively cool climate. It is a very popular starting or stopping point along the trail. Starting at the train station, this walk to Demodera is quite doable. It is one of the shortest stages of The Pekoe Trail and one of the most popular ones. As it leaves Ella town along Passara Road, there is a track that forks to the left and follows the train through the Ella Forrest Reserve to the famous Nine Arches Bridge. This is a popular trail. It is common to meet fellow hikers on their way to or from the Nine Arches Bridge. The bridge is hauntingly beautiful and a major tourist attraction. The exceptional Nine Arches Bridge is known as the “bridge in the sky” due to its towering size. It was built during the colonial period in extremely challenging times when the original materials like steel were allegedly relocated by Britain to resource the Great War. In the end, it was made out of stone, brick and cement. The route crosses the bridge and continues on the railway line to a small path on the right. The next part is the most strenuous part of the stage as it climb steps amidst the houses of the local village. Soon it lands on the village road and the hard climb is over. There is a lovely family living at the junction – they offer fresh juice if desired. The views of the Nine Arches Bridge from this point are fabulous. Ahead is the Newburgh Tea Factory. At the junction, there is a large gate giving access to The Secret Ella Hotel. To the left begins a descent along another village road with a few guesthouses and village homes on each side. At the very bottom, it zig-zags down towards the chena cultivations seen below and the tea estate in front. Upon entry to the Demodara Tea Estate, there is a walk up a lovely tea trail. Up ahead, there is another trail to the left. Looking back, the Nine Arches Bridge is in view again, but this time much further away. The track soon reaches a small Buddhist shrine and along the way it passes by the modest home of a local family and their pet goats. The main tea trail through the Demodara Estate loops around and arrives at a lovely lake on the left. Once it reaches the small tarmac road there’s a track on the left-hand side that leads to Nine Skies Bungalow. As the path approaches the village the main street is on the lefthand side.
